Meaning:
The village grew around a Benedictine Petersberg Abbey founded around 800, which belonged to Fulda until 1803. It was seat of a parish. Until 1829 the name of the village was "Brauhaus" (= brewery), which is symbolised by the strainer, a brewer's tool. The key, the attribute of St. Peter, and the mountain (German: Berg) are canting for the present name.
The arms were approved in 1936.
