Shield Vert parted by a pall wavy Argent, on fess point an inescutcheon Or charged with a lion ampant Sable.
Meaning:
Gemünd gained city rights in 1825 due to the importance of the local iron processing, which existed in the area since the 14th century. The pall wavy is representing the confluence of the rivers Urft and Olfe, making it a canting symbol (Gemünd is derived from mouth of the river). The inescutcheon displays the arms of the Counts of Jüülich, who acquired the area on both banksof the urftbecame in 1351. The were late upgraded to dukes.
