Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. The upper half is divided per pale. There the dexter side shows a sinister facing, silver (= white) demi-lion issuant, crowned golden, tongued red in a blue field scattered with golden (= yellow) fleur de lis. The sinister side shows a black demi-lion issuant, armed and tongued red in a golden (= yellow) field. Below in a silver (= white) field are two black arrows crossed per saltire.
Meaning:
According to source every field alludes to former rulers of parts of the municipality: The silver lion is taken from the arms of the Counts af Schleiden, the black from the arms of the Counts/Dukes of Jülich, the arrows from the arms of the Abbey of Steinfeld.
