Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a blue flag. Above is a white iron railway bridge overstretching the total width of the flag. Beneath the bridge is a yellow cross of vanes of a windmill flanked by two white oak leaves.
Meaning:
The coat of a rms is similar, but there the leaves are placed beneath the cross. On 1 January 2008 the subcounties of KLG Burg -Süderhastedt and KLG Eddelak - Sankt Michaelisdonn merged forming the current subcounty. The bridge is taken from the arms of KLG Burg -Süderhastedt Subcounty and also symbolizing the connection between both former entities. It is a railway bridge crossing the Kiel Canal. The cross of vanes (pars pro toto) is taken from the arms of KLG Eddelak - Sankt Michaelisdonn Subcounty. The mill in the former arms had symbolized the economic importance of windmills in the former subcounty and was alluding to the existence of windmills in both municipalities. The windmill "Edda" in Sankt Michaelisdonn-Hopen had been one of the last windmills exclusively powered by wind. The leaves are symbolizing both former entities.

Reputedly Rudolf II, the last count of Stade, was killed here and the castle was destroyed afterwards. Archbishop Hartwig von Bremen, the count's brother, donated a church dedicated to St.Peter, which was built between 1148 and 1168. The keys are St. Peter's attributes. The waves are symbolizing the Burger-Au aka Wolber-Au and the Kiel Canal. The arms or the just the keys(?) are based upon a parish seal from 1409.

Local people got extra work, sold parts of their soil and took care of accommodation and catering of the numerous foreign workers. The situation was improved in 1907 by the extension of the canal and again in 1913, when the railway bridge over the canal was built. In 1920 the municipality was connected with the railway system.
