Klosterlechfeld Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale of Gules and Argent, a tau cross in counterchanged tinctures, flanked by two 6-point stars of the same.
Meaning:
The tau cross, an attribute of St. Anthony, is depicted on seals of the Franciscan Lechhfeld Abbey since the 17th century. The stars are attributes of St. Mary and alluding to adoration and pilgrimage to her. Elias Holl built a pilgrimage chapel in 1603. Regina Imhof, local ruler of Untermeitingen had been the benefactor. The chapel has the same style as Sta. Maria Rotunda in Rome. Between 1606 and 1803 the Franciscan Order was in charge of the pastoral care of the pilgrims. In 1655 a church was built and the chapel became its chancel. The old name of the municipality until 1928 had been simply Lechfeld.
