Sulzbach-Rosenberg County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above parted per pale, at dexter Sable a lion rampant Or, crowned, armed and tongued Gules; at sinister lozengy of Argent and Azure; beneath Gules three fleur-de-lis Argent ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The county merged with Amberg County into Amberg-Sulzbach county. The arms are based on the 14th century arms of the ducal Sulzbach court district, which covered the largest part of the county. The upper part shows the arms of the Pfalz (lion) and Bayern (lozenges). Both are alluding to the Wittelsbach kin who had been Dukes of Bayern and Palatine Counts of Rhine as well. The lower part shows the arms of the Counts of Sulzbach-Kastl, who founded and organised administration and court and ruled the area as predecessors of the Wittelsbach family.
