Shield Azure, a castle Argent with windows and open port Sable and two towers with roofs Gules and a round gable between the towers, all flanked by two wreaths Vert and topped by a 6-point star Or.
Meaning:
The village was first mentioned in 1248 as Novum Forum, which means "Neuer Markt" (English: new market). It was fortified in 1281 and called a town (Latin: oppidum) in1324. It was sold to the City of Erfurt in 1326 and became a dominion of the Wettin kin in the middle of the 14th century. The castle is representing the status of a city. The wreaths are woad (Latin: Isatis tinctoria), a local plant, which was used for the production of a blue colourant. The star is just a decorating ornament. The arms are based on a seal of the local council from 1651 and appeared already in 1602 on the bell of the local parish church. The arms changed frequently in details.
