Two versions of the flag of Floridablanca (Santander):
one (above) at <www.alcaldiadefloridablanca.gov.co>
and other reported flag at <www.risclinicaguane.gov.co>.
Dov Gutterman, 13 August 2004
The first version is from the mayor's office of Floridablanca,
Santander (Province of Soto), Colombia. The description of the
flag translates: "The flags is composed of one single strip
of green color, meaning the wealth and fertility of her lands,
thus consacrated since the memorable times in which Hacienda la
Palmita or Mano del Negro was known, and in virtue of hope
companing people from Floridablanca...The flag will show in its
center the king star (the Sun), theme of worship of the Guane
culture, which prevailed in this ragion, and as symbol of
progress in this municipality. It says that the flag was
adopted by decree number 003, the 4th November 1977 (in
conmemoration of the 160 years of fundation of the parish).
The second version is a from medical facility and it also
describes the flag as green with a sun in its
center. It reports a different decree number (083),
also from November 1977. (Both sites agree that the
Coat of Arms was adopted by decree 085, the 7th November 1977, so
I suppose Guane Clinic's site is more correct than the Mayor
Office's site). I do not know enough of Guane culture (or
the actual decree), but it seems to me that the picture at the
Mayor's Office's site show a more ethincal representation of the
Sun (an spiral sun), while the Guane Clinic's site show a more
"modern" one (one with pointing rays). So
far as both sites are concerned, there is no description of how
the sun should be represented (not even a description of its
color). Note that in the site of the Mayor's office has another
page at <www.alcaldiadefloridablanca.gov.co/sitios_de_interes.asp>
showing a flag with a sun with pointing rays. Floridablanca, in
Soto province, department of Santander, is part of the
metropolitan area of Bucaramanga.
