municipality in the Chocó Department. It was established on 23
May 1994.
El Cantón del San Pablo flag is horizontal green-yellow-black.
Information in Spanish as follows: "Verde: representa la
naturaleza que esta al rededor nuestro. Amarillo: representa la
riqueza de nuestra tierra (oro y platino). Negro: representa
nuestra raza (nuestra etnia)."

"Green represents the nature surrounding us. Yellow
represents the richness of our soil (gold and platinum). Black
represents our race (our ethny)."
"Gold and platinum" are also invoked in the municipal
anthem, written by Leonor Diaz. However, the "Economy"
section of the municipal website states that the main source of
income in Cantón del San Pablo are agriculture and forestry
(and, potentially, ecotourism), mining being developed "on a
very reduced scale."
Mining seems to have been mostly performed by panning the
ore-containing waters of River San Pablo (and is still performed
this way, as shown on photographies available on the municipal
website, either with a pan or a sluice box, as a family business
rather than mining industry).
The "Culture" section of the municipal website states
that the inhabitants of Cantón del San Pablo are mostly of
(remote) African origin.
The municipal flag forms the border (except on the top) of the
municipal coat of arms, which shows the local landscape,
including the river and a washing pan (in Spanish,
"batea").
