On 1 July 2011 the new commune of Jorat-Menthue was formed by the merger of Montaubion-Chardonney, Peney-le-Jorat, Sottens, Villars-Mendraz and Villars-Tiercelin (see below).

The insects on the Peney-le-Jorat flag are gad-flies (in French taons), because of the nickname given to the inhabitants.
