Taking advantage of its Homecoming evening on June 24, the Municipality of Saint-Antoine-de-L’Isle-aux-Grues unveiled its flag created by the artist, Jean Eudor Vézina. "This distinction became necessary in 2017," said the mayor and chair of the reunion committee, Lisette Painchaud, who is very proud of the result.

"Because, until this day, the Municipality did not have a standard. There was the flag of the factory, but it was not representative, according to the mayor. “People don't situate us. They confuse us with Île aux Coudres, ”notes the mayor. Wanting to have a distinctive sign in its image, the Municipality adopted a flag encompassing the Archipelago of Isle-aux-Grues and its 21 islands which are under its jurisdiction. Ms. Painchaud believes these symbols will help clarify the situation for visitors.

In addition to the flag, two tables were also unveiled identifying the names of the owners of the islands and islets as well as the names of the owners and residents of the archipelago. In addition, the artist Claude Vézina produced a sculpture that will be installed on the south facade of the church, accompanying the painting of the original families.

The flag, like the sculpture, bears the main emblem of the islands, the ice canoe, paying homage at the same time to these intrepid islanders who, over the decades, braved the river and its winter conditions, to seek care, stock up, visit.

“This flag and the sculpture proudly represent our ties between each of the islands. The ice canoe is our figurehead for the recognition and significance of our archipelago, "says Lisette V. Painchaud.
