Introduction and Sources

Some of the Brazilian naval flags are pictured differently from the current designs in the 1917 National Geographic flags issue (chart reprinted in Znamierowski, p. 97). The flags shown there are shown in comparison with US rank flags), so the terms are not always consistent with Brazilian usage.
