Municipality

The municipality of São Domingos do Sul (2,926 inhabitants in 2010; 7,895 ha) is located 250 km north of Porto Alegre.

São Domingos do Sul was settled in 1894 by German and Polish colonists coming from São Sebastião do Caí. They were later joined by Italian families coming from Bento Gonçalves, Flores da Cunha, Farroupilha, Caxias do Sul, Veranópolis and Antônio Prado.

The flag and arms of São Domingos do Sul are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 65 promulgated on 13 August 1990.

Article 2.
The coat of arms shall have the following characteristics.
A Roman shield with blue, green, yellow and red background. The green and yellow colors represent the country, as well as blue; the green, yellow and red colors represent the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where the municipality is located. Blue is the municipality's characteristic color, symbolizing peace and the immense universe that was steadily conquered, whatever it may be, by the municipality that only recently started its way as such.
in the lower, main quarter is represented a sun, as a symbol of birth, fertility and development of all the nature's components, the human being included. Also known as the king star, the sun provides light and guidance to everyone on the historical path initiated by the municipality. The multi-shaped mountains represent the topography of almost the whole municipal territory.
In the left quarter, on a yellow background, a pig, a bovine and a poultry, representing the municipality's primary production, main activity and first source of income. In the right quarter, on a red background, characterizing the municipality's secondary production, a factory representing industry; the basalt activity stands out, which served as motivation for the construction of the represented building, in addition to other industrial activities that exist here or are in development. The cogwheel, together with industry, represents commerce and transport, which are strong sources of income for the municipality. The shield is surmounted by three interlaced yellow links representing the Executive, the Legislative and the Municipal Community. The main link is charged in the center with a cross, a signal of faith, union and religious spirit that have always been taken very seriously, guided by the exemplary Protector of the municipality, His Grace João Benvegnu, a symbol of faith, hope and charity, in the search of peace, justice, liberty, fraternity and development. The red, yellow and green scroll is inscribed with "São Domingos do Sul" and the date "08-12", on one side, and "1987", on the other, the day of official creation of the municipality. The shield is surrounded by crop products most representative of agriculture, such as maize and soybean, among others.

Article 4.
The flag of the municipality of São Domingos do Sul shall be composed of the municipal coat of arms placed in the center of a white panel.

Article 5.
The features of the flag of the municipality shall obey the following rules.
I. The flag's width is 12 units.
II. The flag's length is of 18 units.

Article 7.
Blue is established as the official and characteristic color of the municipality of São Domingos do Sul.
