Municipality

The municipality of Santa Tereza (1,768 inhabitants in 2000; 1à,769 ha) is located 100 km of Porto Alegre.

Santa Tereza, settled in 1885, was one of the most important centers of Italian immigration in Brazil. The place was named by chief engineer Joaquim Rodrigues Antunes after his wife's surname.
