Things are changing in Bahrain. More than 368 non-governmental and governmental organizations have been established within a "transparent" legal framework, including numerous human rights groups, among which are the Bahrain Human Rights Society, which recently carried out an inspection of Bahrain's prisons, and a local branch of Amnesty International. Other examples of these well-meaning organizations would be the National Instution for Human Rights, the Bahrain Marsad for Monitoring Human Rights, the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights, and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy. However, other of these Bahrain Human Rights Organizations are questionable, the National Instution for Human Rights (listed below) would be an example.
it is also noted that Bahrain's policies still restrict the freedom of press and media. There are violations reported, include arresting, and torturing of journalists who have a contrary political view to the government being reported.

The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights, formed in 2011, gathers information and attempts to document human rights violations within Bahrain. They encourage the importance of change and the prosecution of those responsible for these violations.
For example, the BFHR has reported violations of freedom of religion and belief of Shia Muslims in the Ashura season in Bahrain. This has not made them popular with the ruling powers of the Kingdom.

The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) is a non-profit organisation focusing on advocacy, education and awareness for the calls of democracy and human rights in Bahrain. BIRD works by engaging with victims of human rights abuse in Bahrain to provide them recourse to aid and justice. They also engage with key international "actors" and governments to advocate for policies that support human rights in Bahrain.

The National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) is portrayed as an independent entity charged with promoting and protecting human rights in Bahrain. However, other Human Rights groups claim the NIHR consistently demonstrates its involvement in concealing human rights abuses committed by the Bahraini authorities, and its role in further reinforcing the culture of impunity.
