In several 19th Century flag charts (sometimes issued by the European navies) there are
mysterious flags attributed to Argentina or Buenos Aires. There is not any Argentine legislation or written testimony left about these flags. They may have been errors, or according to other authors, flags that has not been studied yet by History.

[In the 1858 US flag chart [hbl58] under the title] «Argentine Republic» at position (4;4) appears a rectangular ~2:3
flag with four unequal white and blue horizontal stripes, the topmost being half the width of the other three (i.e., (2+4+4+4):(21)=2:3); on the middle white stripe, extremely offset to the hoist, a smiling sun
with 16 stubby triangular rays.
There is only one shade of blue in this source, identical for all flags (not even hatching is used).

[In the 1858 US flag chart [hbl58] under the title] «Argentine Rep. (Merchant)» at position (4;5) appears a rectangular
~2:3 flag with five symmetrical white and blue horizontal stripes, the edge ones being half the width of the other three (i.e., (1+2+2+2+1):(12)
= 2:3).
There is only one shade of blue in this source, identical for all flags (not even hatching is used).
